Segundo Alcalde Portero lives alone, in an isolated town in the province of Soria, at an altitude of 1200 meters and in the mountains. In 1976, the first democracy and bureaucracy referendum was held that day changed his routine to set up a polling station where he is the only voter. A short time later he leaves his home and Peñalcázar becomes part of what is now known as the empty Spain.
Starting out as a home nurse, Lieve braves the windy weather on her moped to assist her elderly patients. She has a big heart and tries her hardest to fulfill the wishes of all her patients to the best of her abilities. The biggest challenge she now faces is learning to respect her own boundaries.
